Purge the Depths, Scorpio Full Moon, 5/1/2026
Face the darkness & transform your subconscious fears with the Scorpio Full Moon.

The Foundation
May 1st, we have a cathartic, truth-revealing Full Moon in Scorpio.
Scorpio is deep and intense. Its association with the actual predatory arachnid reflects its calculated, focused energy. It’s also related to passion and power, particularly within relational dynamics. Scorpio’s sense of awareness is based in deep emotion, acute perception, and deliberate action.
Scorpio is associated with sensuality and magic. It’s comfortable navigating secrets, pain, and the dark mysteries of the occult and death. Scorpios are highly intuitive and psychologically determined; they take in information on all levels - emotional, physical, and psychic. They want to purge the depths - be it in relations or research - they want to dissect and KNOW the intimacies of their chosen “target.” Scorpios’ intensity is so innate that they can teeter on the side of obsessive, suspicious, and compulsive. With maturity and discipline, Scorpios are unwaveringly loyal and powerful. They can witness uncomfortable truths and facilitate profound transformation.
This full moon is illuminating spaces where obsessiveness or need for control is restricting your growth. It’s lighting up the space in your life where your personal desires and power is undermined by your unyielding emotional attachment to and persistence on a particular idea or outcome. This is a time to consider what needs to be adjusted or purged from your life to evolve.
The Scorpio full moon provides the determination and thick skin necessary to investigate the depths of our most intimate relationships - to ourselves, to others, to our ideas or habits - and transmute them. This full moon wants you to acknowledge the fear that you know is holding you back. It asks you to be fully present with the “crisis” that you are avoiding. Now is the time to shine the light of consciousness into the dark.

The Cosmic Dance
This cosmic backdrop to this moon is complex, intense, and provocative - in typical Scorpio fashion.
The moon is sitting opposite the Sun in Taurus. Taurus reflects our sensory experience and material possessions. Taurus likes simple comforts and security. It prefers stability and serenity. Taurus is slow and even resistant to change. The Sun in Taurus is highlighting this desire or awareness in our lives. In opposition to the Moon in Scorpio, tension lies between our need for material comfort and security and deeply buried emotional fears.
Both the Sun and Moon are in fixed signs. Taurus is fixed Earth, and Scorpio is fixed Water, so heavily rooted ideas, beliefs, or habits around our material security must be balanced with deeply anchored relational patterns or fears.
The ruler of this moon is Mars. Mars is will and action. It’s sharp and assertive. Mars is currently in Aries, where it’s fuelling our drive towards a new sense of self-identity. This moon illuminates the deepest, darkest emotional tendencies that don’t align with that identity. We intuitively know they cannot coexist. Mars not only gives us the courage to act, but it also provides the knife to cut the cords.
This Scorpio Full Moon is square Pluto in Aquarius. A square is a tense, frictional aspect that requires action. Pluto is death, fear, power, and transformation. Aquarius is the radically unique individual within the collective. Pluto in Aquarius is our transformational journey into higher authenticity. It’s where we are individually tapping into collective awareness to be reborn as our most unique selves. The Pluto square to the Moon means this will require us to face the pain of transformation. In order to step into the power of our most authentic expression, we have to recognize and transform, or even let die and be reborn, our deep emotional entanglements.
The Scorpio Full Moon is part of a Yod configuration, otherwise known as “the finger of God.” It’s called this because of the fated or non-negotiable change that is required. This is a disharmonious aspect between three planets in the zodiac wheel that points to a specific need for adjustment. Because this aspect combines 3 distinct, usually disjointed or incompatible aspects of our lives, it creates a disorienting experience, and necessitates recalibration in a specific area of our lives - the apex point.
This Yod is between Saturn in Aries and Venus in Gemini, with the Moon in Scorpio as its apex. Saturn in Aries is asking us to take our new vision of self identity serious. It’s helping us to make a plan, build the form, and show up with consistency. Saturn is working with Venus in Gemini, which is bringing clarity to our desires. We are likely making new supportive connections, gaining fresh, invigorating ideas that support the development of our new identity.
But all of this new potential is getting distorted by the Moon in Scorpio, which is the adjustment point. This is pointing a divine microscope into the depths of our emotional and subconscious ocean. Something must be purged in order to transform and receive the treasure of our expanding sense of self.
The Moon is receiving kind reinforcement from Jupiter in Cancer and the Lunar Nodes. Jupiter has been expanding our sense of emotional security. It’s helping us to remember that we are supported, and that our true home is within. As long as we reside there, we are safe. The Lunar Nodes affirm the destined need for the death and rebirth that the Scorpio Full Moon brings.
Finally, simultaneous to the Full Moon is a Mercury-Chiron conjunction in Aries, which means the conversations or insights that come with this moon will likely trigger long-held wounds around our individuality. Although you may experience old feelings of rejection or insecurity, it will also bring cathartic healing. You have the inner power now to move differently.
In summary, the entire year of 2026 thus far has been a 2 steps forward, 1 step back, awakening journey. You’re being called to courageously become your own hero. Up until now, this has required us to accept and embrace the new, while reorienting our perspective on the old. The Scorpio Full Moon is the moment of hard truth. It can’t all move forward with you. Your intuition has been telling you this.
The power of this Moon is the ability to see and be present with the discomfort. Scorpio doesn’t seek easy solutions - it prefers truth and soul-deep healing. It’s the clear and profound knowing of what no longer works. Although it may be disruptive to your sense of safety and comfort, trust this process of transformation. As beautiful and hopeful as new life is, birth is the most intense, often painful portal.
You are being reborn.

Affirmation
Scorpio is intuitive and calculated. They fluidly navigate the cusp of fear and ecstasy, passion and power, death and transformation. Use that magic to craft your Scorpio Full Moon affirmation.
I heed the wisdom of my intuition, and channel the power of my ancestors as I face and release/alchemize my fear of (Scorpio). I know true security is only possible when I honestly value and love myself, and true intimacy is only possible when I can share and be my whole, authentic self.

Rituals
Moon Water: The Moon has a rhythmic relationship with the waters of our planet and our bodies. Water facilitates connection and is the carrier of emotion.
Fill a clear jar with water and hold it in both hands as you mindfully speak your new moon affirmation or intentions to the water. Place the water outside or near a window where it can receive the moon’s presence overnight. Drink your moon water with conscious intention of allowing the energy of this moon to flush away ideas, emotions, and/or actions that are not necessary as you move forward on your path.
Water & Earth Magic: Scorpio is a water sign associated with mystery, magic, and the occult. It’s sitting opposite Taurus, which is an Earth sign connected to sensory pleasures.
Begin by lighting a candle, dimming the lights, and using the reflection questions to gain clarity about what needs to be acknowledged, adjusted, or released in your life. Write out what you will purge or alchemize on one piece of paper. On a separate piece of paper, write a “spell” about your intentions to transmute these into new personal power.
Prepare a large bowl, pitcher, or bottle of comfortably warm to hot water, and bring a shovel of sorts. Find a space outdoors where you can non-invasively dig and possibly be nude (this is the perfect full moon to explore the raw feeling of being naked outside).
Dig a small hole and bury your list of fears that you are leaving under this Scorpio Full Moon. Determine the 4 directions - north, east, south, and west.
Begin by standing upon this freshly disturbed ground (nude if you dare, barefoot at least), facing north - reflecting on your fears and how they have shaped you.
When you are ready, turn to the west and consciously release these fears with the intention of transformation as you pour the warm water over your body or feet.
Next, turn to the south. Speak your spell of transformation and finally, turn East and consciously face a new horizon of possibility, knowing your previous fears are buried beneath you.
